The evolution of the electric vehicle: more than a trend, a global transformation

In the last decade, the electric vehicle has gone from being a minority alternative to becoming a central player in the transformation of mobility. Sustainability policies, technological evolution and changing consumer expectations have driven this change, accelerating the growth of a sector that is redefining the way we move, produce and consume energy.

Evolution of electric vehicle sales in Spain

2022The market share of EVs was barely more than 5%.
2023 Approximately 8,5%The new car market, boosted by incentives such as the Moves Plan and a wider choice of models.
2024Growth continued, standing at around 11% of total enrolments.
April 2025Market share already is close to 14.2%This represents a significant leap in just three years.

A maturing market

What began as a risky bet for a few manufacturers has now become a priority strategy for the main automotive brands. The number of electric models available has grown exponentially, offering solutions for all segments: from urban cars to commercial and industrial vehicles. This diversity has been key to achieving new market shares and democratising access to electric mobility.
One of the most notable advances has been the improvement in battery range. According to recent data, many electric vehicles now exceed 500 or even 600 kilometres of real range, eliminating one of the most important historical barriers for the user: anxiety about recharging.

Sustainability and innovation as drivers of change

Environmental pressure and European regulations are accelerating the electrification of the car fleet. Regulations such as the European Green Deal 2019 or the Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition (7/2021) in Spain set clear emission reduction targets and a progressive ban on internal combustion vehicles. In addition, incentive programmes such as the MOVES III Plan (currently in force until December 2025) reinforce the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging infrastructures.
In addition to this institutional drive, there is greater public awareness of sustainability, energy saving and the need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The electric vehicle is thus positioned as a viable, efficient and environmentally friendly solution.

Drivers of growth in V.E. registrations

  • Greater variety of models available, including more affordable options.
  • Improving freight infrastructure, especially in urban areas.
  • Government incentives, such as the Moves III Plan, which is still in force.
  • Growing environmental awareness among consumers.

The challenge of recharging: key to deployment

ORBIS VIARIS AC chargers: intelligent solutions for efficient recharging

  • Versatility of power ratings: from 7.4 kW to 22 kW, both single-phase and three-phase.
  • Secure access control: activation via RFID, app or web platform, ideal for shared or fleet installations.
  • Robust and elegant design: ready for indoor or outdoor installation, with high IP protection and top quality materials.

The future is electric and it starts at every installed recharging point.
